Patna: After nearly six weeks away from the state capital, Bihar’s Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has returned to Patna and put fresh pressure on the ruling government. He gave Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his administration 100 days to deliver on key promises made to the people.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, Tejashwi said his party will hold back public criticism for three months, watching closely whether the government fulfils its pledges on jobs, women’s welfare and crime control.

Why this deadline now?

Tejashwi’s return ends an extended holiday that took him out of Bihar for over a month. He told media that the decision to stay out raised questions, but now his focus has shifted back to Bihar’s governance.

The opposition leader said the Nitish government must implement the promises made in its election manifesto including job creation for youth, financial support for women and steps to reduce crime.

If the government fails, the RJD leader hinted that his party would take up the issue more aggressively in the coming months.

What does Tejashwi want delivered?

Tejashwi highlighted several areas he believes need urgent action:

  • Two lakh rupees for women’s accounts, as promised in the manifesto.
  • Jobs for young people, especially in districts with high unemployment.
  • New industries and factories to boost economic growth across the state.

He also accused the government of electoral malpractice during the last assembly polls, alleging that the democratic process was compromised. Tejashwi said the RJD will adopt a “constructive political stance” for the next 100 days before resuming more direct criticism.

How has the political scene evolved?

Tejashwi’s deadline comes at a time when Bihar’s political temperature remains high after the recent assembly elections. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) under Nitish Kumar is in power, while the INDIA bloc, led in Bihar by parties including the RJD, seeks to strengthen its role as the main opposition.

The deadline is seen by many observers as a strategic move to keep pressure on the government without immediately escalating tensions. Political analysts say it could mark the beginning of a new phase of constructive opposition politics in the state.

The Nitish government has yet to respond formally to Tejashwi’s 100-day challenge. Meanwhile, supporters of the RJD and allies say they will monitor progress at the grassroots level.
